Homemade Toddler Halloween Costume Is A Lucky Hit…And Breathe
A few weeks ago as I cut one felt feather after another, I was almost certain that I had lost my mind.
I went to the craft store at least a dozen times just to walk out empty handed and overwhelmed. Then I came across this tutorial for owl wings that made me swoon.
After googling “owl masks” I knew which direction we were heading. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out but as I sit here, nibbling on my toddlers’ candy stash (what? she doesn’t eat candy), I think I am actually beaming with pride.

I should tell you that I started my day with a trip to see the Bean’s Grammy at work in her costume. Grammy works at a retirement home, so technically, I could have dressed her in a garbage bag and the residents still would have swooned over her.
Since it was cold, at the last minute I grabbed her new winter hat and shoved her mask over it only to realize that it was indeed the missing piece! It was amazing, if I do say so myself!
I would love to do a tutorial but I did not take many pictures since it was a bit of a fumbling experience to get to here.
I am a lazy crafter so I cut felt “feathers” without a pattern and glued them to an oversized onsie (essential for diaper changes)!!
I did realize that gluing feathers to the onsie really, really took all fabric give away, so I am so glad I chose a big onsie ( 2 sizes bigger) or I would have never gotten her into it!
The “feet” are just felt wrapped around her show and glued in the back, they are not fastened to the shoe so they constantly flopped but it did not bother me.
The mask is just lucky cutting.

If I decide to give it another try next year, I will have my work cut out for me but thankfully I took about a thousand pictures so this costume will live on in our home!

I am in love with this costume! Great job! I wish I was sitting here snacking on candy, but since we did our trick or treating at family homes they were all prepared with juice boxes and toddler worthy snacks. Much appreciated, but Mommy would have liked a bite of candy, too!
